Costume Jewelry
Costume jewelry is kitsch. It is not meant to be a valuable addition to any jewelry collection, but is instead meant to be worn until the next fashion arrives, and then thrown away. However, despite its lack of material value, it is still widely popular.
Costume jewelry became popular during the 1930’s. It was inexpensive, and often mimicked the fashions that were commonly seen in the moving pictures of the day. As time moved forward, many of these old pieces would reemerge in the fashion world.
Costume jewelry from the early 20th century is often considered a collectible item. Many of these older pieces can be found on numerous websites, being offered for far more than that for which they were originally sold. Some of these pieces can often be sold for well over 100 dollars.
