Sterling silver has been a popular material for making jewelry for decades, if not longer. The appeal of sterling jewelry is often considered akin to moonlight, due to its silvery sheen. Most jewelers will have a selection of this type of jewelry.

Sterling jewelry is made from a silver alloy that is roughly 92% silver and 7% other metals such as copper. The reason for this is that silver is naturally too soft for many applications, and as such it often needs to be reinforced with another metal to give it structural strength. Platinum and zinc are also commonly used to reinforce the silver.

Sterling jewelry is very popular today. Many people prefer the look of silver to gold, for varying reasons. Sterling silver is often less expensive than gold as well, which is appealing to many people.
